Why was Marlene Dietrich not living in her house?

I did not quite understand why Marlene Dietrich's character was not living in her house. It looked like she had been evicted from her house. But no clear explanation was given in the movie. During the Nazi power, many high-ranking Nazis lived in houses that were taken from Jewish families. It's only natural that such houses were given back to the original owners after the war. But Marlene Dietrich did not get the house during the Nazi power. It is mentioned in the movie that her family had owned the house for generations. So why was she now evicted? Because of her husband's sins? I guess that's what we are supposed to believe. But still, it seems strange that the punishment for being a wife of a Nazi general was loosing your house. I think that a movie that places so much stress on justice should have explained that seemingly unjust situation.

Another possibility is that she could no longer afford to live in the house, without her husband's income.

I thought the government took the house from her because it was bought with Nazi money. Didn’t they do similar things after WWII ended?

The maids said the house was with her family for generations so the initial purchaser of the house were prior to NAZIS, maybe hunderds of years before then. My interpretation is it was a house ilof her family but she married a high ranking NAZI and their home was repossessed after the war. Her husband was prosecuted by the allies they said.

You can’t “loose” a house, unless you mean to unleash it to run free.

It’s “lose.”
