How was this film completely overlooked by the Academy?

I find it astonishing that it received no nominations! It is excellent is so many aspects - acting, cinematography, costumes, set design. And yet - not one nomination.

I think you didn't look at the award section of the movie page, the movie won awards and had nominations at Canne's Festival, check here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055018/awards?ref_=tt_awd

not that i care for the oscars, but they don't care for horror movies or comedies, and this was both, it was untentionally funny.

i mostly will not be able to answer your reply, since marissa mayer hacked my email, no notification

At least a nomination for Kerr.

reply

Agreed. Kerr is always good, but this performance is astounding. And the children are wonderful, little Miles is just diabolical. But the Academy didn't go for the genre, even if based on a classic literary work. Sixth Sense and Silence of the Lambs changed things a bit, but as much as I enjoyed those movies, for sheer atomospheric creepiness Innocents wins hands down.

reply

Kerr nearly ruins the film for me. She's the worst thing in an otherwise excellent picture.

Well, many films that do get recognized at the Oscars are forgotten by next year and yet we all still love and appreciate this film almost 56 years later so I'd say it has the last laugh.
