I'm about halfway through this movie and am just about to hit fast-forward. Nothing remarkable at all has happened and so far it's the same repeat predictable scene of annoying kids and situations. I'm willing to bet if I just skip to the end I wouldn't miss a thing. Just another overrated cliche "art" film.
I thought it was an interesting, involving and visually stunning film. The child actors were very good as well. "The Innocents" and "The Shinning" are the greatest ghost films ever made.
Yeah, good visuals. Reminded me of another film shot in the same year as far as the look. The child acting was good, but still too irritating for me to sit through. The screenplay was just too repetitive and grating for me, and yeah, a bit convenient, to say the least.
thats surprising because I found the kids a strong point of the film
They are. Kids are only irritating and unwatchable when they're cloying and bad, neither of which is the case with these two excellent child actors.
(Besides, the OP sniffs of possible trolly-ness, but I've yet to check his posting history).
As beautifully-realized as this film is visually, it's Deborah Kerr who always drives me nuts (and almost ruins it for me): she's just too stage-actress-y.
I usually hate kids in horror films especially when they're supposed to be 'creepy' but I honestly thought the two children playing Miles and Flora were fantastic and completely believable, the boy especialy did a good job - I love the scene where Miles recites the poem. Also fast forwarding through the scenes that you don't find 'remarkable' is a silly way to watch a film, you can't guage if a film is good or bad if you don't bother to watch most of it
I watched the rest of the movie, but not with much joy. Just not my kind of screenplay, the intentional irritating characters and repetitive "no one believes me" story. The kids were good actors for sure, I just loathed the characters.
Strangle the little bitch?? She's 6 maybe 7. Jesus. Her screaming was clearly the result of a trauma. Only a heartless bastard would be so quick to hate a child for screaming like that.
Get off your soapbox while I play you a tune on the tiniest violin.
The children don't bother me at all. Just as with adults some I like and some I don't. I can't say "all children are annoying" or "all adults are annoying" because I judge based on the individual and not entire groups. These ones I found alright, but there have been many movies where children did annoy me. It has nothing to do with their age though, just their personality.
I love this movie anyways, though, but see why it could be too slow for some because the second half is when things start to get REALLY interesting.
I thought this was beautifully acted, and the kids were simply amazing. In fact, all the actors were great.
Trouble is, this is not a movie for millennials with short attention spans. You must actually pay attention, watch every scene, and pull yourself away from your phone for an hour and a half. Can it be done? I doubt it.
It's also a ghost story, so don't expect torture or someone having their head chopped off in the first scene.
