Jean Arless in *Shampoo* ??

Jean Arless is credited as a supporting player (under the name Joan Marshall) in her husband Hal Ashby's movie *Shampoo* with Warren Beatty and Goldie Hawn. But I'm stumped. I can't find her. Has anyone sighted her in the movie? Was her role cut after the credits were filmed?

She's a customer in the salon.

And the entire movie was based on ideas and situations Hal Ashby heard from me -- ahem! -- I mean, from her, that is. If you can get hold of the Connie Francis musical movie "Lookin' For Love" and the unaired "My Fair Munster" pilot for "The Munsters," Joan/Jean is in those as well. In "The Munsters," she is so sexy and strange as "Phoebe Munster" that she throws the whole thing off-balance. Fascinating!

I want to borrow that blonde wig of hers. I'm tired of looking like Carroll Baker.

I'm not sure you CAN borrow it, Rina Marlowe. Comic Kathy Griffin dyed the thing red and she currently wears it on days when drag artist Coco Peru doesn't need it. Oh, the wonder of Dynel!

I never did like that wig anyway, I prefer Crawford's hairpieces in Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte and I Saw What You Did. To quote hairstylist Maggie Donovan in 1964: "We're up to our asses in Crawford's hairpieces!"

Joan Marshall can be briefly spotted as a customer in last scene in salon near end of film, right after Warren Beatty's character learns of death of shop owner's son. She's pouring coffee, then turns and walks directly toward camera looking like a slightly older (and much better coiffed) Emily. (Interestingly, William Castle--Marshall's Homicidal director--also has a cameo in Shampoo as a guest at the election night party at The Bistro.)
