Wow... *Spoilers*

*Spoilers* (Major ones, like, ruin the whole movie ones)

I did NOT see the ending coming. When I was first introduced to Warren I thought "Wow, what terrible dubbing, and wooden acting" and I thought I would hate the rest of the movie just because of him, but once I got to the ending where she takes off this wig I was like, whoa. I now realize it looked like the voice was dubbed because of the false teeth. And I think it's amazing that the actress could get that kind of vocal range, when she talked like Warren as Emily, it matched up perfectly and I was in awe. Great movie.

I'm pretty sure it WAS bad dubbing. But such flaws as this dont matter to me. I love this movie. It's so entertaining.

******Spoiler******

According to William castle's autobiography he hired Jon Marshall (Jean Arless) in part because she had the ability to lower her voice a couple of octives and the voice of Warren was not dubbed but was in fact Joan Marshall.

I couldn't agree more with the original post. What a shock and a fantastic ending.

reply

Me too. I truly did not see it coming at all. Not to mention I love Willaim Castle's films. I wish there were more directors like him. He brought fun to horror cinema.

reply

That voice was dubbed.

What happened at the end anyway?

reply

I agree. I am embarrassed to admit that I did not see the end either. Due to the age of the film, I thought that the actor playing Warren just had dated mannerisms and a stiff carriage. I remember making a mental note to check up on his IMDB profile later while watching. What an amazing acting job by Jean Arless.

So no one here knows what happened at the end of the story, right?

I never heard of this movie either. The nano -second Warren spoke I howled out loud.
It reminded me of Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Geez.... this was so obvious that I fully expected a double twist.

I don't agree Warren's physical size is a giveaway that the role is played by a woman - who can really tell the height and measurements of actors in a film? There are many legendary masculine actors in films who in reality were/are quite small. And a man and a woman who are both say 5'6" probably don't have that big a difference in the size of their hands and feet.

As as far as no Adam's apple, I would say at least 60 percent of men don't have a adam's apple so promenient that you notice it. I can't recall very many famous male movie stars in fact who had a conspicious adam's apple.

Warren's voice does have a disembodied sound that suggests it was recorded at a time after the filming but most films do have dubbed moments and it usually comes off without a hitch. I wonder if Warren's vocals were deliberately a bit off kilter. I do think the stiff delivery of Warren's lines (whether by Arless or a man) hampers the credibility more than the "looped" sound.

Spot-on - Warren's dialog has a "looped" sound right from the start, which is a dead giveaway that some kind of deception is going on.
