Who Did Warren's Voice?

I know in a book they claim Joan Marshall did the voice herself, but there is no way it wasn't dubbed and done by another actor. You can actually hear the over dubbing. So does anyone know who it was?

reply

It was definitely dubbed. Anybody could hear the difference when Warren spoke compared to the other actors when they said something. But it still may have been Joan Marshall doing the dubbing herself, however. Now, why she would have done that? You have me there.

Possibly the voice was dubbed by Arless herself and her vocals were electronically altered to sound more masculine.

You have time-travelled with a funky understanding of technology.

- This movie had no budget. There's no way they'd electronically alter her voice.
- The technology in 1961 to do drop the pitch of a woman's voice would have been non-existent or extremely rare & complicated.

Which proves my point. I said I did Warren's voice and I meant it. Discussion closed.

I'm sure glad that you cleared that up Emily. I was always under the impression that Virginia Gregg supplied it. What was I thinking of?

Most people think it was Marni Nixon.

That's what I figured, too. I know that same year, she also supplied the voice for Mickey Rooney as Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I love Warren's voice it's so hilarous. The guy is so uptight. I call him/her Mr. Stiffie!

This little epic MUST be remade with Vincent Kartheiser as Warren/Emily. All you need to do is see him on MAD MEN and hear him say, "A thing like that!"

Of course, I will do a cameo but don't you dare ask me to play Helga. I look FINE!!

reply

Did you say cameo? Careful Jean! Look what happened to little old me in THE BIRDS 2 - LAND'S END.

Melanie Daniels

Yes, that was an unfortunate career decision for little old you, wasn't it Tipsy?

I think the oh so masterful Brian De Palma is the one talent fit to remake "Homicidal." While he's at it, he could freshen things up by doing lots of unmotivated gender switches in the casting.

Just think! I could play justice of the peace "Alfreda S. Adrins" so that when the blonde pulls the knife out of her purse to stab me, I can pull a switcheroo by yanking a shiv out of my robe and stab HER instead.

Paging Robb White or was it Bob White?

Love for everyone, Jean

Of course it could have been done in 1961!!! The early 1960's were hardly a primitive era in filmmaking!!! Dubbing, altering voices, that was no big technological accomplishment at that late date. Heck, a couple of known singers from that era reportedly could barely sing a note and had all their tracks pieced together in bits!! And all sorts of dubbing has been done in films since the 1930's.

This is hardly a "no budget" film. It was a major studio release that apparently Columbia gave a big release.

OMG, I thought the same thing when I first saw Warren. I thought "Wow, that looks like Pete!" That's why it never occurred to me that Warren was a woman. Wondeful acting job!
