tacky film quality

I saw this as a kid on vacation in a drive in theater in Gearhart, Oregon. The colors were faded, the film murky and beat-up looking. The editing was bad, but that's obviously not the photography's fault. Asking others who had seen it in indoor theaters, the verdict was unanimous: the film quality was tacky. Anyone know if it's been cleaned up in the years since?

Sorry to say, but no. I recorded this movie from the TV in the 80s and that was the best print I've ever seen (still wasn't great though), and bought a laserdisc version of it that was supposedly tracked down at great length from somebody's private collection, and that copy was terrible! The current DVD version isn't good either. I've resigned myself to the fact that this movie is destined to look like it's spent too long on the rinse cycle for all eternity.

Sorry for this late response, but thanks for your informative reply - nice to know I'm not alone in being distressed over the film's quality - or lack thereof.

I'd buy a blu-ray of a decent transfer.
