In the tv version I saw on Svengoolie, Leon and Cristina met once and then in the next scene she's falling in love with him and they talk about running away together...did I miss something in between? Or was it a movie "Love at First Sight" thing?
I think it's implied that they had seen each other before off-camera. There is something of a passage of time going on. I think it was mostly done the way that it was to shock the audience with the revelation that they're having an affair and to forego the difficulty of having to write their meeting and the development of their relationship. Just skip to the affair.
