Allied Rape Of Italian Women

An article on the mass rape of Italian women by Moroccan troops under the command of the Free French - http://uncensoredhistory.blogspot.com/2013/10/mass-rape-ww2-italian-women-french-colonial-soldiers-moroccan.html

Thank you. Moroccan troops. That's helpful. I couldn't figure out who the rapists were in film. I never saw a good shot of them, and they didn't even appear to be in military uniforms from what I saw (the video quality on the DVD I watched was almost unviewable -- couldn't make out much), so I was confused. Then later Sophia's character waves down an Allied jeep and starts unleashing a tirade against them, "Look what your boys did to my daughter!", or something to that effect. I couldn't really make heads or tails of it, since I could make out enough to know that the rapists weren't American. Anyways, we've all heard the stories about the rape of German women by Russians, but I hadn't read anything about this. Thanks for sharing.

Glad to be of help. World War 2 ended 70 years ago it's about time the media paid as much attention to Allied war crimes as those of the Axis. It's true what you say German women did have a tough time of it as well - www.exulanten.com/humanloot.html Some estimates put the number of German women raped by Allied soldiers as high as 1 million or more - www.hellstormdocumentary.com

reply

Please don't forget the Polish woman were treated just as poorly by the Russians as were the German woman. As for the American and Brits ... the numbers of reported rapes were very low.

reply

Yes, I have heard of the rape of Polish women by the Red Army and also their rape of women in Romania, Hungary and Yugoslavia. This article claims that American soldiers raped thousands of women in France - www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2334204/The-GIs-raped-France-We-know-mass-rape-German-women-Stalins-soldiers-Now-new-book-reveals-American-troops-committed-thousands-rapes-French-women-liberating.html

reply

Of course there was rape in France ... it was war!

14,000 French woman VS 1,000,000 - 2,000,000 German & Polish Women ... not much of a comparison.

More so ... 60,000,000 to 80,000,000 dead because of the war. There was tragedy on so many levels. For the most part (99.99% of the time) we were the good guys!

reply

Just because there is a war on is not an excuse for rape to occur. The French women were raped by American soldiers who were there to "liberate" them. They were supposed to be on the same side. They weren't even enemy women like the Germans. Rape is wrong no matter what the numbers.

reply

OK Pollyanna ... beat away at that drum and see where that takes you.

reply

Ok, so you basically condone and excuse rape of civilian women and children? Something that is globally considered and recognised as a war crime... Did you know that not only were civilan women and children all over Europe raped by allied soldiers, the Allies even raped the women and children they liberated from the death camps. Such nobility and valor, eh?

reply

No I do not condone any such thing ... and it is silly you would state such. I am just trying to get you back into the present as these atrocities occurred 70 years ago! But if you prefer keep beating away at that drum and see where that takes you. In the end you will not accomplish much. Seriously.

reply

No you don't condone it. But, neither do you abhor it. You make explanations as if we needed you to straighten things out for us. You are engaging in minimizing and denial and I can't sit here and not call you out on it. So what the Allies were the 'good guys' in the war. It doesn't wipe away the stain of inhumanity of the rape of Japanese, German, French and Italian women after the defeat. If the subject is not to your liking then don't engage. But, don't deny, explain and minimize either. Have you not heard of rape culture??

reply

How can you say I do not abhor it? You don't know me from Adam! Nor do you know anything about my family's experience in the war. And it is pretty bold of you to think you do ... just because I don't scream about it from the street corners.

My view of the war is a little more empirical ... WW2 was the most tragic period in the history of man ... 60 to 80,000,000 people DIED because of this war! You do realize that nobody survives death? More so, genocide was a main objective in the war ... and nuclear bombs where used for the first time in human history.

These are they ways ... from 70 years out ... that most have decided to remember WW2. Now if you and others want to challenge that perception ... and focus on the rape of 14,000 women ...by allies that lost millions of lives in an effort to win the war ... have at it. In the end you will find you do not have many friends.

So ya take that argument to Normandy or Malmady or Bastogne on Memorial Day and see how that plays. Then ask yourself if that cold response you get is because those folks do not abhor rape.

Your response:

"ok Pollyanna....."

Rape is a war crime. I see no compassion in anything you wrote. THAT is where you are wrong. I don't know you, true. But, your words, and lack of them, speak volumes.

reply

The numbers of women and children who were raped, tortured and murdered range from hundreds of thousands to millions. It is difficult to know the exact numbers, because if they survived; who could they have reported to? Who would care?

These atrocities and crimes against humanity of soldiers raping torturing and murdering civilians, during the war AND AFTER the war ended, cannot be excused. It is despicable, and the reason we need to talk about it now is that it HAS BEEN IGNORED FOR 70 YEARS.
