An All-Time AMERICAN Classic
This film embodies the ideal America of yesteryear...The days of Leave It To Beaver, the Annette Funicello-Frankie Avalon beach movies, The Andy Griffith Show, and of course the REAL Walt Disney classics before all those lousy college-punk studio execs took over Disney from the 70s and throughout the 80s, 90s, onward...
This film makes so many social and political double entendres, that it takes at least a half dozen viewings to catch all of them. A very cleverly disguised, highly intelligent film, indeed.
Fred MacMurray: An American icon who has been totally underrated...He could play a killer (Walter Neff) in DOUBLE INDEMNTIY, an unscrupulous lech in THE APARTMENT, and yet also the utterly affable Ned Brainard.
And Nancy Olson...What a foxy, delectable lady. What has happened to the DNA of American women (?) They just don't produce them like her generation anymore. Today, girls that are 18 look like they are going on 30...No sweetness or innocence left...And those who are 30 or over, either look and act like men or appear to be lesbians.
Elliot Reid & Keenan Wynn were inimitable. Character actors like that also don't exist anymore...
FLUBBER was a decent remake...But no match for this original American classic.
