Electric Shocks
Apparently they used to shock Mister Ed to make his mouth move as they wanted it to. Probably wouldn't get away with that now.
sharethey didnt shock him. they used a see-thru string attached to his halter and would tug on it when they wanted him to open his mouth. in fact i just watched an episode today "Ed the Artist" where you can see the person handling the string which was attached to a wood pole at the bottom right of the screen when Ed is painting the other horse. This isnt the first time Ive seen the string, its pretty obvious in alot of the episodes.
