I heard one of the original Mr. Ed stories on NPR Radio tonight!
Walter Brook's short story "Mr. Ed Improves His Mind" was read on the NPR porgram "Selected Shorts" by actor Tony Roberts. It was very interesting to hear this early version of Mr. Ed's exploits. There are some differences in this story and the TV show: Wilbur is "Wilbur Pope" (not "Post"), the wife is "Carlotta" instead of "Carol."
The most glaring difference is that Ed actually talks to a few other people in the story, and not just to Wilbur.
The story is really funny, and Roberts reads it very well, giving each character a separate identity.
