Why hasn't there been a big budget Hollywood movie of this?

They can do movies of crappy sitcoms like The Brady Bunch and BeWitched but we are yet to see a big budget movie of the greatest sitcom from the 60s! Why not? Has there ever been talk of making a Mister Ed movie? How come it hasn't happened yet?

They can't do it. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE could play the parts of Alan Young OR Bamboo Harvester OR Connie Hines.

On the other hand,

if Alan Young played Wilbur, retired and running a farm for (silent) retired racehorses, but really good at it because he eventually learned enough Horse-ian to talk to them....

and he only slowly discovers over summer vacation that his grandson has a secret---the grandson is talking with a talking grandson of Mr Ed.............

and then they have to figure out how to keep them together once the kid goes home for the school year.....hmmm.....

The Brady Bunch movies were hilarious.

Rather than attempt to adapt the original tv show it was based on, the two (three is you count the following tv movie) brady bunch movies mocked and took the piss out of the original tv show!

Can't speak for today, but Mister Ed was clearly predated by the fifties movie series Francis, the talking mule, with the voice of Chill Wills. Francis was an Army mule and got in the same kinds of trouble. His sidekick most of the way through was Donald O'Connor. But he declined to do the final entry, Francis In a Haunted House. That one co-starred Mickey Rooney. These movies were very successful till they ran their course. Why did O'Connor bail on the last one? His response: "when the mule gets more fan mail than you do, it's time to get out."
