Funniest scene ever on TV

The episode "Leo Durocher Meets Ed":
Ed is, natually, a huge Dodger fan. One day, he's watching his Boys in Blue face the dreaded Giants -- we even get to hear Vin Scully -- and poor Moose Skowron is in a horrible batting slump. Of course, Ed notices what's wrong with his swing and just has to tell the Dodger coach.

Ed ends up visiting the club at brand new Dodger Stadium (the pretence is for Wilbur to give the team batting advice), and someone comes up with the 'cute' idea of having a horse bat against Sandy Koufax. So Ed grabs a bat (in his mouth) and the future Hall-of-Fame left-hander fires one in. Ed swings, connects, and races around the bases. The ball rolls to the fence as players chase it down. As Ed rounds third, the ball is coming in and Wilbur yells "Slide Ed, slide!" We see our beloved Palomino hit the dirt, and Dodger catcher Johnny Roseboro has to climb the backstop to avoid getting "horeshoed".

Yup. That was classic stuff right there. Mister Ed was my favorite show growing up as a kid because of great comedy like that.

That was THE most surreal scene that I have ever seen in my entire 40 years on the earth. A huge horse carcus sliding into home base!!!! Priceless! You can't make this stuff up.

After reading this thread, I had to see what this looked like. The description the OP gave was so funny and it matched the scene perfectly. I found the clip on youtube and it is indeed hilarious!

I definitely agree. That scene is so darling. Here is another terrific scene with Mister Ed singing THE EMPTY FEED BAG BLUES. It also features Alan Young, Connie Hines and Jack Albertston with him.

BTW, Alan and Connie made such a cute couple in this spot.

Hah... I saw the title of your thread, and before I even clicked on it I thought, "Gotta be the Dodger Stadium scene."

That was indeed a riot!

The episode where Mr. Ed sneaks aboard a ship to Hawaii, and gets Wilbur in hot water with his wife and the Kirkwood's while on vacation. Hilarious! There is a scene where Mister Ed is on a surfboard was the silliest ever!

The episode where two of the stars of the Beverly Hillbillies--Max Baer and Irene Ryan were guest stars on an episode of Mister Ed. A riot!!! Explosively funny!

The other where special guest star Jonathan Harris visited Wilbur Post and the results were hilarious!

Don't forget the episode with special guest star Clint Eastwood, and the one

with featuring Lassie's own Jon Provost as a special guest star.

Wow, you picked my favorite episode and scene from the series. That whole show with the Dodgers was great. I hate the Dodgers with a passion today, but back then it was great to see the old Dodgers. Ed was great and that slide was classic. The surfboard scene was another classic. I also remember a scene where Ed was driving and I remember it being very funny.

There were too many great scenes to pick a best one--this was a Great TV show. However, I just watched that episode, and it didn't look like Bamboo Harvester! At the end, in the ball park, his muzzle was really dark. Maybe it's only because I read they used a different horse for some publicity shots.

reply

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to mention that Ed had a double used for the riskier scenes. I don't know about "publicity shots" I'd expect that those were Bamboo Harvester himself.

Ha, i talk about this scene STILL to anybody who will listen. First saw this when I was about 5...i'm now 40 and still can't stop laughing!

The top funniest moments from "Mister Ed" are the things Ed does with his hooves (fake hooves but still very funny). These are my top ten from least to best:

10: Mister Ed signals a left turn with his left hoof while driving a milk truck ('Ed the Chauffeur')

9: He's locked up in stocks with fake front hooves ('Ed the Pilgrim')

8: He plays the drums with his hooves ('Ed the Musician')

7: He stomps out his own beatnik chant ('Ed the Beachcomber')

6: He makes a hoofprint on the first copy of his book 'Love and the Single Horse'

5: He kicks the stall door with his hoof, shouting "oh, begorra" when Wilbur offends him by dressing up in a horse costume. ('Don't Laugh at Horses')

4: He taps off his alarm lock with his hoof at 12 noon ('The Heavy Rider')

3: He crosses his hooves whenever he tells a white lie.

2: He scrubs his saddle in a steel wash bucket with his hoof singing, "oh, this is the way we wash our clothes, wash our clothes, wash our clothes..." ('The Wrestler')

1: He hits a baseball home run and slides into home plate with that darn hoof (and he's safe!!!!!) ('Leo Durocher meets Mister Ed')
