What if they had added a baby to the show

I always wondered what would happen if Wilbur and Carol had had a baby. I know the main premise of the show was Wilbur's relationship and interaction with Ed and perhaps adding a baby to the show would have diverted Wilbur's time and attention from Ed. It would have been neat for a kid to have a talking horse for a pet.

I always wondered that too after the blessed event episode and the episode where they babysit a friends baby. I think that wouldnt have been interesting to watch.

That would have been a bad idea. Wilbur's extreme devotion to Ed is part of makes the show so fun to watch.

A baby would have ruined it and made it boring.
Back then, how did Wilbur and Carol handle being childless when children were the norm for married couples? I wonder...

Ed WAS the baby of the family, a surrogate "child" for Wilbur.
