Since the BBC did such a good job with the reinvention of Doctor Who I always thought that this might get remade by ITV just a thught

In this week's 'Radio Times', John Lloyd says that a 'Spitting Image' revival was abandoned by I.T.V. due to the cost involved. If they could not afford to make a show about latex puppets, what chance would a new version of 'The Avengers' have of being commissioned?
shareTrue that. A Spitting Image remake would have been cool too actually. Just thought it would be great to see a new version of the Avengers with the sophisticated effects now available.
ITV definately seems to be in some troubled water these days.

Im hoping someone brings back the avengers, and fast! If they wait too long it could easily be too late. I think David Renwick, who wrote Jonathan Creek could easily do it justice.

It would work if they decided to do it in the same genre as the Bourne series of films, with a harder edge, and for go trying to just redo the television series, if they're going to just rehash the television series for the cult fans, then you'll get the same crap they released with that last remake. A revived television series or movie would need to attract a much broader audience to be viable to any studio whether it be a television series and especially a movie.
The "Doctor Who" series isn't really a remake or a revival, it just picked up on the Doctor's further adventures, seeing as how Peter Davidson has played the Doctor on the old series and the newer series, it's just a continuation of the series with better special effects and a little bit of a darker edge.
It would be rather difficult to have Patrick Macnee sprinting about as John Steed when he's 88, they did a continuation of the television series with "The New Avengers".
Movies will make you famous; Television will make you rich; But theatre will make you good.
I'm of two minds about it; on one hand the original is such a product of its time that trying to do it today may seem anachronistic and quaint.
At the same time, it would be kinda interesting to take the concept and try to boost it up for modern times, and flesh out the characters a bit more and have more thought and consistency in the stories.
I guess I'd just have to say that if they did do a re-do of it, I wouldn't tell them not to, but I'd have reservations until I saw the final product.
"Value your education. It's something nobody can ever take away from you." My mom.
A re-make has already begun, but not the BBC or ITV.
A short pilot is being produced that will see John Steed and Mrs Peel pitched against an old advesary.
The short pilot will stay true to the original, only brought up to date, but still retaining the familiar chemistry and pastiche of the series.
Could be interesting especially as it's the 50th anniversary approaching soon of the original air date back in January 1961.
I don't know; "The Avengers" was such a product of its time that updating it or making it more like "Bourne" or "Spooks" seems like a case of massively missing the point!
"We all got it comin' kid!"
This will be nothing like Bourne or Spooks, far from it, it is faithful revival of the original series in a contemporary setting.
Demand for these characters to return to the small screen is incredibly high, and with shows like Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes enjoying a successful revival, now's a good a time as any, to bring back Steed and Peel.
I wouldn't presume to judge something before I've seen it but - and this is only a personal opinion, no offence intended - I believe "The Avengers" is going to be an extremely difficult if not impossible concept to successfully put into a contemporary (i.e. 21st Century) setting!
I'll be curious to see the finished product!
