. . . were 'The Cybernauts' and 'Return of the Cybernauts'. The 'mad scientist' villians were Michael Gough and Peter Cushing; respectively.

They reminded me of some of the better British Sci-Fi films of that time, and the android cybernauts were truly dangerous adversaries.

How can you go wrong with such great villians as Gough and Cushing?

I always felt that the disappointing AVENGERS movie might have been salvaged if the cybernauts (with Connery in charge of them) had been the film's main attraction.

Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were responsible for my discovering THE AVENGERS, and other Hammer veterans proved memorable as well, such as John Carson, Andre Morell, Clifford Evans, Andrew Keir. The late great Michael Gough deserves special mention as the definitive 'diabolical mastermind,' also one who wasn't interested in profit. As a great fan of Britain's Golden Age of Horror, with Hammer, Amicus, Tigon, Planet, Tyburn, etc. I found that many small part actors received larger roles in the popular series, and it was an opportunity to get to know them better. Total agreement as to where to start, since "The Cybernauts" was chosen to introduce the show to American audiences in March 1966, and Michael Gough got the ball rolling.
