When I was seven years old and visiting my mom's sister, I came down with chickenpox and spent a lot of the visit bedded down on Aunt Betty's couch watching TV. I saw a show that later I was able to (pretty much) determine must have been The Avengers. Never seen it since.
The episode had the main characters investigating murders committed by a villain who dressed in an eagle mask, climbed into second-story windows with clawed gloves and clawed his victims to death. This freaked me out so badly that it featured in my nightmares for years afterward.
I'd like to find out what episode it was, but I'm finding details hard to come by. The ep was in color, I recall, which might help narrow it down.

Any help by anybody who might recognize the description would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, That's the one.
I found the entire episode on Netflix and watched it through my Dialysis treatment. The opening bits brought up some very uncomfortable emotions, though intellectually I couldn't (and can't) fathom why this scared me so badly as a kid.
The night after I had the old recurrent nightmare for the first time in almost thirty years.

At least now I know *what* scared me back then, if not *why*
