Looking for an episode

Hi,
I am writing a paper for my literature and film class this semester. The topic is spy shows and I believe this is one of the first, if not 'the' first, spy show with a male and female main characters.

I am looking to watch a few episodes, if I can find them. I need one in which the main male and female characters need to go undercover as a couple in the suburbs (much like in Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Alias, and Chuck). Does this episode exist in this series? If so, which episode? I know I could search for episode descriptions and read them, and I will if I have to. I just figured I would ask the fans if they could point me in the right direction.

I've not seen all the Avengers episodes, but for what you're looking for, "Death on the Rocks" sounds like the best fit from what I've seen. It's a Season 2, Episode 10 story with John Steed (Patrick Macnee) and Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman) posing as a married couple in London (not the suburbs) to investigate a diamond-smuggling operation.

I saw that one a few weeks ago via Netflix discs. I don't know if it's online anywhere although YouTube is usually a good place to start.

You are right, I think, that The Avengers was the first television spy show to feature both a male and a female lead. However, the series did not begin that way--it was only when Blackman joined full-time that that situation occurred.
