All those murders and no police....

OK so the avengers take care to get rid of their own murdered agents but in each episode at least two innocent bystanders are killed with no police investigation. Always struck me as being odd, that.

Well it is the fantasy of the show. Instead of a police procedural, The Avengers were on the case to solve it and either kill or bring the baddies to justice. The cases were extraordinary crimes against the people and the state, so the cases were above the police if you will. Plus I'm sure the ministry cleaned up or took care of a lot of the collateral damage. I do find it funny how many people died in Steed's apartments over the years. In Legacy of Death they were literally pilling up! I also wondered what Steed's neighbors thought! All the break ins, shoot outs, attacks! They're must have been so many body bags leaving that place!

Well, this is TV's "dramatic license".

I had the same thought while watching Westerns from the '50s and '60s on the retro channels.

It's usually the "bad guys" apparently left to rot, but the bad guys often pile up victims along the way.

I think it was a "Rifleman" episode that made me think of this. Three bodies, all "strangers", were found on or near Lucas' ranch, and the scene ended with Lucas (or whoever) riding away. There was no mention of the need to dispose of the corpses.

Who hauls them away, and where do they haul them to? I wondered.

Once in a long while, the characters actually mention bringing a body into town, taking it to the coroner, etc.

Whether it's the 19th Century Wild West on US TV, or 20th Century Cold War spies on UK TV, the audience is politely requested not to inquire after the disposition of all those bodies. 😉

It is set in South Yorkshire,so the police are too busy doing other things to catch criminals.
