This was a great episode. Well written with a tight, intelligent plot. This was a very serious, realistic episode, for The Avengers. To me it reminded me of a Cathy Gale era episode, especially The Wringer. The villain is quite eccentric which is always a plus. I'd like to point out the musical score here as well. I thought it was really wonderful and it stuck in my head. Also nice that Tara is center stage in this episode and fully utilized.
Something I've meant to bring up for a while, Steed's SIDEBURNS and hair!!! Oh my! They are getting bigger and bushier by the episode and are featured in this episode as well. Steed's hair also looks more greasy and slicked and it tends to puff out on the sides. I like my Steed immaculately groomed, and defiantly this hair is so not Steed! Steed is too
traditional to keep up with modern trends.
Steed's tux at the end looks a little too 70s as well with the chain pendant. I keep dreading that Steed will be wearing ruffled shirts! Interesting that in The New Avengers Patrick Macnee was strict that he remain traditional and not wear flares and such. That was 1976-77 and he looks better then than this look he's sporting in the Tara episodes.
Patrick Macnee made a statement that at the time he thought that the sideburns looked quite dashing, but now regrets them as he thought they made him look like a backstreet seller of dirty magazines! Thought that was really funny!
But, Who Was That Man I Saw You With? Is a great episode.
