My First Movie!

When I discovered the IMDB and had to come up with an ID, I found it very difficult. I thought it should be movie-oriented but many of my favorite titles and characters were already taken. Then it dawned on me! Why not use the name of the first movie I ever saw in a movie theatre? Toby Tyler was that movie and I saw it at the old Kensington Theatre in Buffalo, NY. It opened the magical world of the cinema to me and I became a lifelong fan! I was overwhelmed by the experience...the big theatre, the huge screen, popcorn NOT made by mom, but I guess I must have behaved myself (I was five) because my dad began taking me almost every Saturday morning for the newest Disney film, inevitably preceded by "Disneyland After Dark" - must have seen that about a hundred times!

Fond memories of childhood... Do you remember your first movie?

Toby Tyler would probably be the first movie I remember really well. I just watched my DVD tonight for the first time and what memories it brought back. As soon as I heard Ben start singing the melody to A Biddle-Dee-Ee, or whatever the title of that song is, the memories just came flooding back. I am still amazed at the bareback riding performances of the three kids in the film, although I suppose they were wired the whole time. It was worth watching the film again just to see Toby leap through the blazing hoop at the end. Wow! And the chimp would have had a lock on an Oscar if there was a category for Best Performance by an Animal. Terrific performances by Bob Sweeney, Henry Garcia and Gene Sheldon, and the very likeable and experienced Kevin Corcoran as Toby. This movie was my real introduction to the world of film. I look back on it very fondly indeed.

Yes, "Deep Throat." I wasn't five.

Just kidding...I remember my first drive-in movie was the movie pilot of "Flipper." That would be about what, 1964?

Can't believe I found this so fast. Well, I can't speak for the early Flipper movie, although I remember Luke Halpin and Tommy Norden very well from the TV show. Also Brian Kelly as the father. But I do remember the Elijah Wood remake from 1996. Whoh! Just looked it up and it is rated below 5 on the boards. Good thing I pay no attention to those ratings. Honestly, it wasn't that bad. I liked it!
I can't believe Kevin Corcoran did his own riding and stunts on Toby Tyler. I didn't think he was that athletic.

Yep, sure do. It was "Snow White and the Three Stooges". My older brother and I were taken to this movie by the neighbors across the street. I strongly think that it was when either my sister or younger brother were born!
