Boring melodrama for baby boomers

Ppl throw the word "classic" around way too much. Braveheart and Gladiator are classics that will translate to any generation. This was a sappy melodrama that didn't withstand the test of time unless you're a baby boomer who grew up when the movie was released. We all have those movies from our generation that we think are classics but they don't translate to the next generation. The only thing from Spartacus that withstood the test of time was Yusef Lateef's beautiful ballard "love theme from Spartacus" to be honest I've yet to see a great Spartacus biopic/ based upon true events. There's still time :)

"Anybody seen Richie? Anybody know why Richie did Bobby Lupo?"

Sorry but I'm a millennial and I love this movie. Those were the days when stories were actually good, and people had class. I generally don't like the dizzying action-fest movies of my generation that are nothing but 90 shallow minutes of violent shaky cam with nothing to say about the characters. And Spartacus is among my beloved cinematic classics.

Nah you’re just an obnoxious ignoramus. Gladiator rips off Spartacus but its CGI and funky editing has already dated, and it doesn’t have the depth, runtime or characterisation you find in a true epic. It gets by on Crowe’s charismatic Maximus. Braveheart is a much better historical picture, but even that lacks the grandeur of the great Roman epics.

You crazy— Ben Hurr was probably better but Spartacus was pretty damn good. The insanely massive consular Roman army joined by Pompeys army at the finale was mind blowing in scope, you’ll never see that in movies now.

I have to partially agree with OP. Some parts of this movie are truly boring and antiquated. But there are some incredible scenes. I'd say the first half of the movie is much stronger than the second half. Overall, I'm very glad I watched this, but it really doesn't feel like a Kubrick movie.
