That scene used to get a lot of talk and debate around here. Its called "the psychiatrist scene" for short, or "the shrink scene" for even shorter.
I'm on the side of the debate that finds the scene great, just long enough, and very necessary. I am in a minority.
I recently read on the internet that some sort of "pirate website"created "the Roger Ebert version of Psycho" , in which the shrink scene is simply removed. This version was created when Ebert was still alive, and evidently he wasn't crazy about seeing his recommendation actually implemented.
