Happy New Year, 2019

At least, where I am...

These boards fulfill a few small and salutary purposes, I think, and one of them is to occasionally share with "this special world here" the holiday landmarks of any given year. Here where I live, holidays still have meaning, and a positive meaning in a world which -- we are told all the time -- has gone hateful and negative in so many ways. Well, somewhat, yes. But a lot of that is "blown up for ratings points and pundit pay." Honestly, someone recently pointed out that, in America at least, we've reached the point where tribalized political anger has become a profit center. It makes BIG money. Its entertainment. Its not all that real.

But holidays are worth celebrating. The sentiments ARE real.

As are new years, worth celebrating. "Do overs." Once more around the block with hopes high.

On the "Hitchcock beat," given that 2018 brought us the 60th anniversary of Vertigo(it got screened at the cineplexes), 2019 will bring us the 60th anniversary of North by Northwest(it WILL be screened at the cineplexes) and 2020 will bring us the 60th Anniversary of You Know What. Have to be here for that. (Not to mention, 2019 will bring the 50th Anniversary of Topaz -- and that's a movie I actually remember seeing in theaters. The nostalgia is strong with that one for me. I doubt it will play any Cineplex, but I will watch it at home.)

No need to rush 2019, but 2020 will be its own kind of landmark, yes? "The twenties" will begin and this time in the 21st Century(so I guess they won't be "Roaring."). 2020 as a number is noteable for news shows and vision. And my personal headiness about "The Year 2000" and What the Future Will Bring, will become a 20-year old Anniversary of what has already happened. Life moves quickly, you have to stop before it passes you by. Or something like that.

Yes, I spend a certain amount of my time here, but it is of value to me. Its time I would otherwise likely be using to watch TV. Why not use the time a little bit more productively, keeping the mind a bit exercised, and getting to talk to knowledgeable people. (So what if its only a handful of people..in the real world, a handful of friends is a gift.)

As always I note: note how often I am NOT here...I do have other aspects to my life. Even at this age.

Though I know there are other sites, this site has many of the old imdb posts. This Psycho board seems to have continued from its berth at imdb as a place where one movie(Psycho) can be studied and discussed(as it should be)....but a simple typing of "OT" allows for any number of filmic topics to be addressed. And they have meaning. If you are into "the movies" you have been given one way to escape the aggravating aspects of life, and a tool to interpret life, especially your own.

So here's toasting 2019 for all of the things we will do in the year...and may this board continue to be one of them.
