...but its been announced that QT has written a script about The Manson Family and its murders; is looking at Brad Pitt (as Manson??? Not bad, really) and J-Law to star(but she won't play Sharon Tate. How about one of Manson's Sexy Sadie killer-sex-slaves?)
I'd like to hear more , see more about this announcement before I take it too seriously. Even if QT really gave the quotes...maybe he's jerking us around.
But what if he's NOT?
We know that QT has displayed a great talent for ultra-violence and bloody gore in most of his movies -- with Kill Bill, Deathproof, Inglorious Bastereds, Django and The Hateful Eight very, very high on the stuff.
Would he, could he...REALLY apply such horror techniques to the horrific and tragic real-life murders visited on Sharon Tate and her guests(one night) and then on a selected-at-random couple at home, the LaBianca's?(on another night?)
And if so...is there room for QT-ish humor here?(Answer: yes, but in the circus-like atmosphere of the trial that followed the murders.)
Slight Psycho connection: It has been said somewhere(maybe even by me) that the sixties began with the stare of Norman Bates(a fictional psycho) in his cell in Psycho, and ended with the stare of Charles Manson(a real Psycho).
This is an interesting story isn't it? I'm not yet convinced it's real. We know that QT was very upset about the leaking of The Hateful Eight script - leading him at one point to cancel the production - so this leak *feels* like it might be part of some deliberate smoke-screen tactic.
If that's not so then, assuming that QT doesn't honestly want to leap to a completely new genre and tone for him - e.g., the cool, gritty procedural with period recreation a la Zodiac (2007) - then one would guess that QT must feel he has some angle on the underlying story that allows for his characteristic motormouth dialogue.
One possibility: we know that QT admires and envies the critical reverence for his friend PTA quite a bit. PTA has done lots of period recreation but always helped himself immensely by thinly veiling the history (whether it's in the Porn industry, the oil industry, or the Spiritual Guru industry) in fiction where he can write whatever outrageous scenes and dialogue he wants. Maybe *that's* how QT will deal with the Manson family and its murders, by treating a fictional Hollywood-connected cult leader, and so on. Effectively that's what the excellent, super-rewatchable Martha Marcy Mae Marlene (2011) did. I wonder too whether, if he does plan to stick to facts, QT might have been influenced by Karina Longworth's well-researched, chilling 'Charles Manson's Hollywood' podcast series back in 2015: http://tinyurl.com/zdlxzps

Nor I.

Recall that he swore he would NEVER make a film of The Hateful Eight after the leak(a play , maybe, he said.) Trickery, foul trickery.
The only other project I've heard QT talk about is a "Bonnie and Clyde style period piece set in Australia"
So something's coming, but no real word til 2018. Believe me, it will be here faster than we know.

It occurs to me that one of the things I've read about Manson and his girls is that they were EVERYWHERE on the Hollywood music party scene around 1967 and 1968(the murders were in 1969.) Some musicians dug Charlie and helped try to get him recording contracts; other musicians -- and actor party guests like Michael Caine -- were creeped out by Charlie and the (sex-offering) girls.
So perhaps QT could do "Charles Manson, the early Hollywood years" and get some creepy-funny motormouth mileage out of it.
You pointed out once, swanstep, that QT said he wouldn't want to do a serial killer movie because it would unleash his sickest side. That possibility lies within this project -- the murders were THAT horrible, and home invasions as well. The LaBiancas had no idea who these people were who entered their home and proceeded to butcher them. I'm figuring maybe some of the Hollywood victims MIGHT have made a visual memory on Charlie's girls. (Remember: Charlie Manson didn't personally kill any of these victims, though he killed others.)
