Why is there so much off topic in this discussion board?
?
shareMany, maybe even most of us have migrated to this site from the now defunct IMDB message boards, where some of us have been discussing Psycho for close to ten years now. We got OT all the time back there and now we're doing it again. We're also, some of us, real friends. On-line only perhaps in most cases but genuine enough.
I hope it doesn't bother you, as I'm one of the greatest "offenders"...[insert appropriate blush emoticon]
telegonus tells it true...I think we realize that for as many years as we've discussed Psycho at imdb and now(mercifully) here...we HAD to bring in some OT material so as not to run one movie into the ground.
Moreover, there have been new things directly connected TO Psycho to discuss in recent years: "Hitchcock" the movie; Bates Motel; Hitchocck/Truffaut, the film; and soon, 78/52 about the shower scene.
Finally, we often make the connection of Psycho to practically all the movies around it. Certain movies LED UP TO Psycho(Dracula, Frankenstein, Sunset Boulevard, Diabolique, House on Haunted Hill) and many movies stemmed FROM Psycho (Baby Jane, Homicidal, Strait-Jacket, Wait Until Dark, Rosemary's Baby, The Exorcist, Jaws, Halloween..Silence of the Lambs). Or even The Godfather.
Its fertile ground for talk and what's great is that new people sometimes come and join us.
And yes, I do have some friends here. I hope!
PS. Please note that we DO post on Psycho a lot. This is the Psycho board. We keep finding new angles on that great film -- particularly from new posters.
As ecarle said, it's a place for people who 'know' each other to talk about films in general, but especially how they can be compared to or were influenced by 'Psycho'.
I know I was a huge follower on IMdB, so I come here to see mostly the same people talking about all those films.
I know I've seen Psycho at least a hundred times, know every word of dialogue, every shot, every musical note...but I never say much because these guys already have it covered. So they may not know me as their 'friend', but I've definitely been a follower of all.
I've talked about 'Baby Jane' here in terms of how it relates to 'Feud'. But I've also seen that film more times than I can count. I'm a fan of 60's horror, even the schlocky ones. In addition to 'Baby Jane', there's 'Sweet Charlotte', 'Homicidal', 'Strait-Jacket'. Know them all well.
Besides, given that this isn't exactly the busiest board around, what harm does it do if someone posts something that's off topic? It's not as if it gets in the way.
I asked that a while back. Apparently, that's just how it goes on the Psycho forum. All films lead back to Hitchcock.
