Interesting relation to Pillow Talk
Generally Doris Day did comedies and she was marvelous in them. I thought she gave an excellent dramatic performance in Midnight Lace as well. Kind of fun to see a comedian try a drama for a change. The other day I watched Midnight Lace and then Pillow Talk and even though one is a heavy drama and the other is a light hearted comedy the two movies have some interesting connections. Midnight Lace co-stars Rex Harrison who plays "Tony" and Pillow Talk stars "Tony" Randall and also has a character named "Tony" (the young man who drives Jan (Doris Day) home) before she meets Rock Hudson. Also, there is "Rex" Harrison in Midnight Lace and Rock Hudson says his name is "Rex" Stenson as he tries to fool Jan in Pillow Talk. So we have three "Tonys" and two "Rexs" involved in the two movies. In addition Tony Randall plays "Jonathan" in Pillow Talk and there is "John" Gavin in Midnight Lace. Also, I heard that Doris Day wore one of the same dresses she wore in the movie Midnight Lace to the Academy Awards when she was nominated for Pillow Talk. (I wish she had won.) Two other items are that in both movies Doris Day has a character name with three letters - "Kit" in Midnight Lace and "Jan" in Pillow Talk and of course both movies are staring Doris Day and take place one year apart. Just something I thought was an interesting connection from two of my favorite movies of all time.
