Who was the guy with the scarred face that appears to be following Doris Day? What was his role in the whole thing? He also enters the house after Doris gets the same old phone call. He's seen eating/drinking at the corner restaurant (where the construction engineer (John Gavin?) is also sitting) on the very night the incidents unfold. Thanks.
Played by Anthony Dawson, the said character is revealed to be the neighbour Peggy's husband. (fellow conspirator with Tony). Believing she is having an affair, he is stalking the Preston house to either confront Tony or tell Kit about the affair (the scene in which he knocks on the door and scares Kit). Weather or not it was an affair or just a collaboration for profit who knows?
Great, thanks. I missed the bit where "the said character is revealed to be the neighbour Peggy's husband." That makes it all clear. I have this "taped" on a DVD and will watch it again this weekend.
I would say that they are definitely having an affair. That would explain the reason why Tony is never at home, always claiming that he is working in the office. Yet when the Inspector asks him if he spends a lot of time at work he replies, 'not any more that the average man and far less than yourself Inspector'.
Poor Anthony Dawson didn't have a lot of luck in these movies did he? He looks so creepy in 'Midnight Lace.' Especially when Doris Day opens the door on him. And he just stands there staring at her.
