I wish Bronson had not.
I have always wondered what the sequel could have been like if all of the Seven had been spared, were contractually obligated to do at least 2 films, supplied with a good script, director, etc. Who knows what screen magic they might have created! I guess no one was really thinking about a possible sequel at the time. I remember that Charlton Heston was certain the original "Planet of the Apes" would never have even one sequel.

I agree. Bernardo was my favourite character, and his death was especially tragic considering his connection with the kids. Yeah, it was foreshadowed, but it was still heart-breaking.
shareit would have been unrealistic for all 7 to survive a gunfight with 30 bandits. Sadness is an important part of stories. That said, Bernardo was a nice character. But look on the bright side, Bronson survived the dirty dozen and escaped in the great escape.
