I actually got sick of it about five minutes in. Such endless repetition...

I actually liked the repetition. It served as a good stylistic means of setting the tone. Similar to the use of "Johnny I hardly knew ye" in Dr. Strangelove, the same melody in different lights adds a sort of overreaching, operatic quality to the film.
