The rev Huckabee, said in the Repug debate " If you wanna believe that we descended from Monkeys then you can go and believe. I dont" So would the USA elect a person with such views. I think so. Presidents have thought they are descended from God or doing Gods works . usually Republican presidents and it seems to play well with "middle America"
yes and that is the unfortunate thing. its popular to not accept evolution. its "noble" to thump on a bible and scream on top of ones lungs their belief in god. Facts and scientific/empirical proof is seen as ridiculous. this seems to be a trend in america. this is why i hate americans, so blissfully happy in their voluntarily inflicted ignorance. in this country, that at once prided itself on the separation between church and state, is currently fusing the two more and more with each passing year. soon we will be equivalent of iran, just as fundamentalist. soon women will not be able to vote, and soon after that we will have slavery back, all thanks to admirable people like reverend huckabee. HAIL HERR HUCKABEE, AS I RAISE MY RIGHT ARM OVER MY SHOULDER AND POINT IT AT YOU. OUR NEW FUHRER. :)
Why does it matter what a president believes in? Creationism has not been disproved, and there is substantial evidence that evolution has not occurred. How can you even say that Huckabee will not allow women to vote, and make all black people slaves? He believes in the Bible, and any Christian can tell you that the Bible says that everyone is treated equally. Whether my president believes that God created each one of us individually, or not, I don't care. I might take that into consideration if he was the head of NASA or something.
I feel the exact same as you for opposite reasons. Too many people are rejecting God and the Bible, and think that they know everything. You can't tolerate other points of view, and our morals are going down the drain.
Creationism has not been disproved, and there is substantial evidence that evolution has not occurred.
A) That's only true if you ignore virtually every scientific paper that meets the standards and conforms to the protocols of what is commonly known as 'honest research'.
B) So when a new strain of an existing disease comes into existence, God just put it there?
Christian can tell you that the Bible says that everyone is treated equally
Rubbish.
As for if America could elect someone who doesn't believe in evolution. I don't think the current president does and I'm certain most of his predecessors didn't either. I don't really think it matters so long they don't intervene or dismiss science for ideological purposes.
The late Ronnie Reagan and the very much alive GWB may have been Christian nut-jobs, but they were smart (Machiavellian) enough to know that it was mostly for show, a put on for the Christian crowd. Huckabee on the other-hand, probably not. That's why America will never elect a truly nutty Christian.

What? WHAT? Have you ever READ a science book? Creationism has been proven as false as achemy and Flat-Earth theory! Do you just ignore any evidence that doesn't fit your worldview?
and there is substantial evidence that evolution has not occurred
Here we go. Evolution has some unexplained flaws, so that means the whole theory is wrong and creationism is the answer, right? Show me some of this "substantial evidence" and let's see if the answers have already been found.
any Christian can tell you that the Bible says that everyone is treated equally
Oh, you're not going to tell me men and women are treated as equals in the Bible, are you? Well, since therte'xs so many examples, I'll just give you a link http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/women/long.html It's your book, YOU defend it.
. Too many people are rejecting God and the Bible, and think that they know everything. You can't tolerate other points of view, and our morals are going down the drain.
Now we come down to your REAL view. It's not about factual accuracy, but about "right and wrong". Who cares if we know the truth about our world, as long as we have morals, right? Well sorry pal, science doesn't work like that. And morals and science are DIFFERENT studies. You want to impede the one because of your view (yours, not necessarily everone else's) on the other. How about you focus on the morals and let science do it's thing, okay? And I tolerate your view just as much as I tolerate any other strange belief. I just don't like it when you insist your beliefs become the law of the land. Imagine where we would be if people like Einstein, Newton, Edison or Galileo were pushed aside because they weren't "tolerating" the beliefs of the establishment? Wait, we already SAW what happened to Galileo.

I solidly affirm The Theory of Evolution, but Skeptics Annotated Bible solicits a sigh and a <facepalm>.
(Science is one thing. Childish propaganda is yet another. SAB is poorly compiled, and I used to assign it to non-majors as an exercise in debunking dishonest quote-mining and poor logic.)
There is nothing wrong with faith. There is nothing wrong with being a Christian. I'm an atheist but to each their own.
Creationsim does not belong in public schools and should not be taught as science because it is not scientific
Evolution is backed up with science despite some unanswered questions it is accepted by the scientific community and the after-effects of Natural Selection can be seen today in many sub-species.
All of that said, as long as Christianity stays out of the government and stays out of the school - I haven't a problem with church on Sundays and praising God. I don't care that "God" is on money..in fact I find it amusing. I don't care if I am sworn in on the Bible. I don't care what religion the next president is as long as he gets us back on track as a nation.
Finally, Inherit the Wind is a fine movie and one that should be replayed over and over again. Its significance has grown over the years.
Recently, Huckabee revealed his true slippery eel personality in an interview in CNN. He was asked about the "Big Bang" and whether or not he believed in it. His childish response was "Well I wasn't there, so I don't know."
It's small wonder he also does not believe in evolution. He has a fine eleventh century mind.
how is that a childish response? he wasnt there and he isnt a scientist so how would he know? at least he didnt say aliens did it like richard dawkins did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxsQrBa0ECE
It's a childish response or worse because he knows no one was there, and he had no other defense against his silly beliefs. Also, this insidious response was geared toward the lowest common denominator of ignorant people, namely the ones called creationists, who's minds are so narrow their temples touch.
If you really believe that Richard Dawkins promotes the idea of aliens being responsible for both the big bang and evolution here on earth...then you belong in the same category as that idiot Huckabee.
i didnt say i believed dawkins believed that we came from aliens but he did say it was possible. are you calling him a liar? you talk about childish reponses, your just an idiot is the epitome of a childish response.
Mr Huckabee will be happy to have your brilliant medieval mind with his when you both join in your archaic thinking. Dust off those thumb racks and iron maidens, the boys from the Inquistion are back.
That's a helluva non-sequitur. As an atheist, I can't prove the non-existence of God, because proof implies evidence. To wit, one can't provide evidence of absence. The onus of proof is on the believer. Yet if you believe in God you choose faith over reason. Without reason there can be no argument. So, in short, I don't - can't - argue with the religious (at least, not about religion). It is, literally, pointless.
This is not, I hasten to add, an attack on religious people. Indeed I feel compelled to defend the religious against 'the new atheists' (Hitchens, Dennett and their High Priest, Dawkins), whose reductive, anti-humanist, spiritless view of humanity represents an attack on belief per se. Hence it is those who should know better - Dawkins et al, our political leaders and opinion formers left, right and centre, those who have overseen the retreat of reason, and surrendered to cynicism and relativism - who are in my sights.
Baiting the devout will not do. And that's a lesson that not only the likes of E. K. Hornbeck need to learn, but the likes of C. E. Hitchens, too:
Three of the 10 Republican candidates at the Simi Valley "debate" raised their hands when asked if they didn't "believe" in evolution: Huckabee, Tancredo, and Brownback. McCain said he believed in evolution but also that the "hand of God" was involved.
By the way, Simi Valley is the community where jurors acquitted the cops who beat Rodney King.
The thing is, these clowns do believe in evolution. But they have turned their backs on the 90 percent of America that is sane, in their haste to suck up to the loony ten percent that controls GOP primaries.
Don't forget Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Michelle Bachman, Herman Cain, Sarah Palin..all creationists. I'm not sure what Romney believes. Being Mormon he might believe in magic underwear. He might believe whatever gets him votes.
