Only movie starring two Actors who have both won Two Best Acting Oscars?

Prior to the filming of Inherit the Wind, both Tracy and March won Two Best Acting Oscars each.

I can't find another movie where two separate actors, who have both won two leading actor Oscars, have starred alongside one another...

Is this the only film where this happens?

reply

No, it might be the first but Pacino and De Niro starred in Heat together, Brando and Nicholson were in The Missouri Breaks together, and I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting.

Last Films Seen: Sexy Beast {B}
Lost in Translation (5th time) {A+}

reply

Neither of those count. Pacino has only won a single Best Actor Oscar. Nicholson won his second after appearing in "The Missouri Breaks".

reply

My mistake. In my haste I didn't see the "two" in the original post.

no nicholson does not, he won his second oscar after missouri breaks. the op states that PRIOR to inherit the wind both tracy and march won their two best actors in a leading role awards each.

reply

It is true that this film is the only film to star two actor who had each won 2 Best actor in a Leading Role Oscars BEFORE shooting began. The following men each have two best actor Oscars: Spencer Tracy, Fredric March, Gary Cooper, Marlon Brando, Dustin Hoffman, Tom Hanks, Jack Nicholson, and Daniel Day-Lewis.

The Score with Brando and De Niro (and Norton, but he doesn't count here)

reply

The Score doesn't count either, De Niro has won a leading actor Oscar and a supporting actor Oscar, not two leading. This is the only film in which two two-time past leading oscars winners appear in.

reply

Little footnote: Tracey played Dr Jekyll in the (almost identical) remake of the film that won March his Oscar.

reply

It wasn't identical, it had one crucial difference: It sucked ass.

reply

"Wag the Dog" had Robert de Niro and Dustin Hoffman as the two male leads.

De Niro won Oscars for "The Godfather Part II" (1975) and "Raging Bull" (1981)

Hoffman won Oscars for "Kramer -v- Kramer" (1980) and "Rainman" (1989).

reply

Just thought of this now:

Russel Crowe - Won best actor for Gladiator (2000).
Denzel Washington - Won best actor for Training Day (2001).

Both Russel Crowe and Denzel Washington starred in American Gangster (2007).

reply

just for the record...

deniro won supporting for godfather II, not leading.

and crowe and washington have won one leading actor each, neither have won 2.

so it still stands, this is the only movie to star two actors that have both won two leading actor awards prior to filming.

reply

exactly .some people should try reading your original posting

Well, if you want to be sexist about it , I suppose these two actors may be it but in 1982, Katherine Hepburn and Jane Fonda co-starred in On Golden Pond. By then, Fonda had won for Klute (1971) and Coming Home (1979) and Hepburn had won for Morning Glory (1934), Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner (1967) and A Lion In Winter (1969). All the awards were for Best Actress In a Leading Role. Hepburn of course won her 4th Best Actress award for the movie they were costarring in and had been romantically involved with Tracy since 1942 or 1943.

reply

Ditto Spencer and Katharine Hepburn - Guess Whose Coming to Dinner.
