Masayuki Ochai's 1999 Saimin (The Hypnotist) may owe something to The Hypnotic Eye. I could swear the face-wash-in-stove-flame sequence appears somewhere in Saimin, but can't find it on my DVD. EDIT: No, I guess it is on the Saimin DVD. Didn't realize I'd left a user review there mentioning the gas burner scene.

I didn’t realize that’s what she was doing - washing her hair thinking it was water. I thought Justine just hypnotized her to stick her face in the flame.
