Soooo... what happened...?
...to Bristol? He's never seen again during the end. Did he die?
shareI think a beam fell on him when tried to save one or both the Ushers when fire engulfed the bedroom.
shareno, he escaped the house I believe. I think I remember the shot where he is standing outside the gates or something. he makes it out, but sadly his fiancé perished in the fire.
Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies!
'Bristol ' the butler dies after a beam falls upon him while trying to save Roderick & Madeline.
'Philip Winthrop' is the one who survives.
.... because Ideas are BULLETPROOF !!!
As others have stated, the film says that Bristol died in the fire after a beam fell on him.
However, this point is confusing, because if you want to get super technical and split hairs with surgical precision, then you can see that the film shows that the beam actually did not fall on Bristol - even though the film is nevertheless saying that it did.
But the filmmakers are counting on the viewer not to watch the film closely enough to notice that Bristol wasn't really under the beam in the shot wherein the film's story claims that it fell on him.
That must be because actually to have the beam fall on him would have been dangerous for the actor.
I think we're supposed to believe that Bristol was killed in the fire that later consumed the House of Usher. We see Madeline strangling Roderick, and after Bristol helps get Philip clear he goes back to help the Ushers when a few more beams fall down. Philip walks away as the House continues to burn, and eventually collapses and is no more.
Bristol says earlier to Philip "If the house dies, I shall die with it." For Bristol, the Ushers and the House are all he's ever known so who knows if he would have even wanted to leave the blaze anyway.
Can't be too careful with all those weirdos running around.
Bristol as shown being squashed by a falling flaming beam.
