If you watch close during the shower scene near the start of the movie you can see Sgt. McGraw (Arch Johnson) reach down and tug up what appears to be swimming trunks. My guess is all the actors during the shower scene are wearing swimming trunks.

That's right, some stills from the film show this.

That makes sense for that time. Just like women wore strapless bras or bikini tops .
