One of Mann's Best Shot Sequences...

Was anyone else really impressed by the way Mann shot that sequence in which the two outlaws are cornered in the school? From the moment they started running to when the kid died - it really struck me. Especially the shot through the doorway, when the kid pulls the child from the other outlaw's arms and he turns and shoots, and Ford tackles him. The way the gunsmoke flares just before Ford jumps and the camera swiftly moves in - absolute brilliance. Mann sure had an impeccable sense for camera movement.

You're right - there were definitly some great Mann touches visible. Btw does anybody know if there is an original Mann cut lurking and awaiting rediscovery one day? I've never heard anything about it but it would be great...

Agreed, but pity he wasn't responsible for the whole film, as I understand he was "relieved" from the project at some stage and replaced.
