... vampire film to feature the new-made vampire digging its way out of a grave, one hand appearing through the loose soil? If so it's been hugely influential (see almost every episode of Buffy, for a start).

Given that it also undoubtedly contributed to the opening sequence of Count Duckula, "Brides" has quite a legacy!

What comes to mind is the 1960 Barbara Steele flick .. uhm, The Mask of Satan aka Black Sunday. She comes to life and then up pops her buddy Javutich. There's a scene of him digging himself out, the mask still nailed to his face. They then go about turning people into vampyres....

Anyway it may not be a coincidence they both date from 1960... now the question is, which came first??!
