WHY IS THE BAD GIRL ALWAYS PRETTIER THAN THE GOOD GIRL IN FILMS ?

Any opinions on why this is the consistent standard in all films ? The bad gal always being the looker and the good gal while not ugly always seems to be less attractive . Any body have any opinions ?

By "bad" girls, movies usually mean some half-dressed, deceiving, sexually promiscuous slut, an evil vixen who uses her body to lure innocent men to their doom. If she didn't have the sexiest looks, she wouldn't be able to properly fulfill her mission in life. On the other hand, a "nice" girl, while pretty, has to have the innocent, cute, demure look of the girl next door, sweetly attractive so you could take her to meet mom and not be considered a loser for having to settle for someone actually ugly, but not a burlesque queen type who was bound to be devoured by giant leeches. One strides around in a low-cut dress, tight jeans or her underwear, flaunting her bod, while the other dresses neatly in a long skirt, closed blouse, sweater-jacket and crucifix and thinks babies are sent by God after the first post-wedding kiss. Which one will pay for her jezebel-like ways by being crushed, eaten, sacrificed or otherwise eviscerated, and which will be rewarded by being rescued from the leeches, spiders, mad scientists or other menaces by the hero?

May it always be so!

Well, there's the old saying: When a girl is good, she's very good. But when she's bad, she's better!

Interesting trivia: Yvette Vickers' Playboy pictorial portrayed her as a bad girl as well, with a sneer on her face. She was listening to records on her record player, no doubt one of those louche new "beat groups" popular with young adults. If you could find a hi-res scan you could probably work out what she was listening to.

To put it very simply (as a major fan of noir):

If the bad girl was nasty looking, how could she possibly get the chump to do her bidding?

No offense intended to anyone (I know people can get sensitive about this kind of thing nowadays), but just imagine the Bruno VeSota character replaced by, say, Robert Redford...and Yvette Vickers replaced by your sister's ugliest girlfriend.

How on earth would the movie work?

(Speaking of Yvette, there's a movie that doesn't quite work to those standards, oddly enough: "Attack of the 50-Foot Woman." Yvette is still little trashy Yvette, of course, but there's no taking away from Allison Hayes! She's a goddess! And it's about the closest she ever came to having a good girl role! So much for the good girl always being plain looking.)

Of course, if the film in question doesn't happen to have a bad girl role, then it's free to have the good girl as lovely as you like...witness "the astonishingly beautiful Julia Adams" (quoted from more than one source) in "Creature from the Black Lagoon!"

"WHY IS THE BAD GIRL ALWAYS PRETTIER THAN THE GOOD GIRL IN FILMS?"

Because bad girls are sooo worth the extra trouble. ;)

But regarding Yvette in this film... It isn't that she is really all that bad, she was stuck in a bad situation that she wanted out of. Sure, she was a little trashy, but maybe she had to be to get herself into that bad situation to begin with.

BTW: The first time I met Yvette Vickers in person was probably in the 1970's and she still looked amazing enough that I considered making a pass.

my guess is that the "bad girl" look is sexy,, while the good girl look , is well plain jane,, not that there's anything wrong with plain jane, but let's face it wnen putting 2 side by side 9 out of 10 will pick the bad girl because she looks more attractive to the eye.
are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

Evil is sexy, just look at Katie Couric.

Not necessarily. Yvonne Monlaur is good girl in The Brides of Dracula, and she is ravishing.
But like others said, bad girls must to be good-looking enough to stun the men.

“Look, you don’t really think that I could be in love with a rotten little tramp like you, do you?”

If I have to explain to you why the bad gal always being the looker and the good gal while not ugly always seems to be less attractive, you must have not experienced much real life in this world.
