My thoughts (spoilers herein)
As a whole, this film was well constructed and illuminated the larger message well. The storyline itself was uncomfortable and rather surprising given its blatant and casual focus on extramarital infidelity, and the way it treats it almost like a commodity among officeworkers in 1960s New York. If it wasn't the senior executives pleading for use of Baxter's apartments in which to conduct their dalliances, it was the public displays of affection by office workers during the Christmas party. That aside, the film contrasts the way of life of those who ran the company - the superficial men like Mr. Dobisch or Mr. Vanderoff - with C.C. Baxter, who caters to them in order to gain advancement in his job little by little. Surely, Baxter is not blameless in this area, although he evidently did not know the scope of their manipulation before the curious arrangement got started. Likewise, the young Fran Kubelik is also not blameless - agreeing to a married man's advances - but she is also at least a sympathetic character in as much as she has been manipulated (later finding out that she is just one of many whom Mr. Sheldrake has toyed with). In the end, we see a world of contrast between those running the show and the others who are trying to catch up - "The takers and those who get taken", as Ms. Kubelik says. For this message, the film did its job.
