These fakes widescreens really *beep* the movie up, practically removing half the film.
This movie was filmed in anamorphic widescreen, meaning that the only way to make a full screen version would be to chop off the sides. There is no "original full screen version" as you put it.
shareCorrect. Indeed, with photography as sumptuous as that found in "The Apartment," I wonder how you could ever question its widescreen format.
shareExactly. We should be happy to have it in such great quality now, the way it was meant to be seen. For years I suffered with a VHS pan/scan copy that often had a lamp at the center of the screen and no characters visible (gin rummy scene). This movie was filmed in Panavision in fact.
