Baxter takes the record off and then puts the needle down and it starts playing music anyway. This is when he brings the girl home from the bar.

There was probably a record underneath the one Baxter removed. Placing one record on top of another was a common way of using record players.
shareWe used to put a stack of three or four at a time. Then we found out that it scratched them when the non-spinning record that drops touches the record on the bottom that is spinning.
Baxter looks at the "Rickshaw Boy" record, doesn't recognize it and removes it so he can play that ubiquitous cha-cha record that is always there in case the "good time boys" want it. (Maybe it's a conga or a rhumba?)
