In a remake . . .

. . . who will you like to see playing "C. C. Baxter" ?

I would like to see "Steve Carell".

Call me old fashioned but it would be a crime to remake The Apartment. There's not a single actor/actress who could fill the shoes of any of the characters.

reply

Remake? No thank you. Nothing and no one could do this movie justice.

reply

No one. it's perfect the way it is. i suppose if i had to chose Kevin Spacey simply for his role in american beauty, to me different but similar. But why waste time remaking a great film, why not find sub par films with potential to remake instead.

remake is a four-letter word.

Which means, of course, some Hollywood putz WILL try (and fail) to do a remake...and move it to the present day, where it wouldn't work at all.

Our attitudes towards sex have changed too much since the late '50s that the whole set up would look silly and anachronistic. Besides which, the companies would probably now have places for their executives.

I dunno, I'm one of those cynical types who thinks a remake could actually work. Obviously it would all depend on casting but if done right this could be an alright movie. Im not sure if the juggling of comedy and drama could really be done without it looking like a crappy judd apatow movie but maybe...

Nobody should ever attempt to remake any Jack Lemmon film. It would be so painful to watch someone remake something Jack did, when quite obviously, everything he did was genius. Doesn't need a remake at all.

I wouldn't want to see this film remade, but that won't stop some idiot trying to in the future, I bet. I think most remakes are an insult, in that they exist because someone thinks they can improve on the original.

reply

This is a remake but not on film... on broadway. Promises, Promises! Sean Hayes is excellent!

reply

yes, saw it on saturday. it was fantastic. now i will try and see the apartment.

i'm proud to admit to never have watched a "reality" tv program!

reply

I agree with everyone...it would be a crime to remae this movie

reply

the plot wouldn't work today. Sexual norms have changed, as has the career ladder, and the economy.

A CC Baxter type would be a consultant today. A Fran Kubelik would be ... what ... involved in Occupy Wall Street?

Mr. Sheldrake is a dinosaur.

Make whatever you want whoever you wish, and don't expect my money.

the musical is being revived on Broadway this season with Kristin Chenoweth as Fran Kublik and Sean Hayes as CC Baxter.

reply

Yeah, I can't wait to see it! I think as long as they stick with the same era it'll work, plus it's a Neil Simon written show, so I know it's going to be good. A movie musical version might be acceptable with the right cast, but remaking the actual movie would be ludicrous and just a plain insult to Billy Wilder and the astute cast.

reply

The musical is quite different than the film and is set in the 60's (at least originally)

In response to the actual question of the OP, I've always thought that Jim Carrey's dramatic chops were underrated, and after "The Majestic," I think if someone gave him a chance he could pull off a Lemmon-esque role just fine. Also, if Spielberg got himself back in the mindset of "The Terminal" I think he could work as director here.

reply

Jim Carrey!!

reply

Why is it that every "old Movie" people are saying who would be in a remake umm Ok how about this who would you put in a remake of Avatar

reply

If this movie were to be remade, I think that the remake would have to focus on making the characters more believable. The interactions between Kubelik and Baxter just don't seem very realistic. I didn't feel like they could ever have fallen in love like that.

reply

Steve Carrell? Christ I hope not.

reply

Benedict Cumberbatch, this would be a perfect romantic comedy/drama part for him, he'd be perfect in this role.
