The ridiculous rating system of the netherlands... This is rate 18

I don't know where to get started. I just made this topic to let people know about the bullcrap movie rating system in the netherlands. Movies hardly get a rating higher than 12, and a movie like Requim for a dream is rated 16.

Guess what? The Apartment is rated 18. That's right.

I wonder what kind of ignorant morons do these ratings...

I don't know how the movie ratings system works in the Netherlands but based on the information you've provided I can venture a guess. In Requiem it's pretty clear the drug addicted characters go on a downward spiral. There are consequences for their actions. It's a tragic movie.

In the Apartment, none of the bad behavior has any consequences. It's all portrayed as fun and games. There's no growth for the characters, no morale to the story, nothing. In the end there's an attempt at a happy ending and everything seems to get tied up in a nice bow as if nothing happened.

There are many serious topics in this movie: romantic relationships, suicide attempts, extramarital affairs, loneliness, labor relations issues, depression, etc. These issues are raised but then they go nowhere. In my opinion, all the characters are flawed; there's no balance.

Thats real life.

I think every countrys rating system has examples of brain-afk watchers (raters).

I bought the German Underworld steelbook and the first movie is rated 18 and the other three 16. But the other 3 are more brutal and gory than the first.

At least they recently re-rated Terminator 1 from 18 to 16.
