Machine on Baxter's desk?

Any idea what the typewriter-like device on Baxter's desk was - or what it does?

It is like a calculator.
When I started in insurance in the early '70's, they were still around but being phased out.
Very heavy!

I just watched the movie in HD on TCM. It appears to be a Friden calculator, but I don't know what model.

Baxter also has an IBM typewriter on his desk.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!

I had a Monroe calculator when I started working in the 60s. Looks like one.

It's a specialized calculator. By this I mean it was designed to do one specific calculation for differing variables. For example, I worked on one that figured monthly, quarterly or biannual payments for a specified dollar amount. Sounds boring, right? But better have the machine do it than you figure it out by hand!
