Since people are bringing their personal reality to a Hollywood movie...
...how come no one has mentioned that C.C. Baxter goes to bed on those sheets every night, with everybody's jizz on them?

There was no such thing as jizz until at least the late 60's. :-)
shareThat was pretty much the very thought that inspired Billy Wilder to write the story in the first place. He had seen "Brief Encounter," a British film from 1945 about two married people contemplating an affair, and there's a scene where they ask a friend to loan them his apartment so they can meet. And Wilder thought about what it would have been like for the friend to have to come home and sleep in a bed other people had had sex in. He made a note in the journal where he jotted movie ideas and returned to it in 1960 for "The Apartment."
