Frankie's stupid look
I can understand Frankie Avalon being cast for the youth part but why did he have to make that stupid look when the doc was washing his wounded arm? It made the scene look dumb.

I think that Wayne was very much influenced by Ford. In his great movies moments like these are common. I agree that it is silly, but it was an attempt at humor. After all, Bowie and Crocket WERE being patronizing to Smitty all through the movie. Even he seemed to realize it when they sent him away.
Remember how they praised him for 'saving Bowie' life'?
"I love corn!"

They needed some humour in the story, i mean its not exactly a happy ending is it?
shareAnd I imagine pouring moonshine onto an open wound wouldn't exactly feel good.
"Congratulations, Major. It appears that at last you have found yourself a real war." Ben Tyreen
I have the feeling had Ricky Nelson not been so widely accepted in "Rio Bravo" Frankie would have never been part of Duke's cast here.
I have no idea what the temperature was supposed to be but the fur hat seemed crazy and while it's not his fault, Avalon looked as dopey as the lines he was verbalizing.
"He sent the rain."
"Who sent the fire?"
"I have no idea what the temperature was supposed to be but the fur hat seemed crazy."
The siege took place in late February and early March. Reports are that it was unusually cold winter, and for many days during the siege the weather was bitter cold. If Davy Crockett did have a coonskin cap (and there is some controversy about how often he wore one), he would have likely put one on. The fictional "Smitty," too, if he had been there. This movie, like other Alamo movies, always make it look like the siege and battle took place in spring or early summer. The weather is always mild, the sky sunny, and except for the buckskin-wearers, everyone is jacketless. Not how it was.
