Happened to watch the film over the weekend. I swear that Avalon is wearing a skunkskin hat! If that's not skunk, what is it?

It's a COONskin hat. Made of a RACOON not a skunk. You know racoons, no? The animals that look like they have masks around their eyes?

It's a little known fact that as a private joke Frankie Avalon used to joke that he had woven some of Annette Funicello's pubic hair into the hat, adding, "It's really hard to tell the difference between skunk fur and Annette's pubic hair." He was only kidding, of course, but word got back to her and she had some Mafia buddies work him over. True story--swear to God.

I am reading a book about the Alamo defenders now, and it does say fur caps were made of skunk, besides other small game like coons and chipmunks.
