Question about the uniforms of the Mexican Army

I saw in the documentary on the DVD that all the uniforms were taken from historical books from the time. I know the lancers in blue, in the zoro hats were accurate, and the cavalry in red with chrome helmets, and the blue uniformed infantry were accurate. But there were Mexican soldiers with white uniforms and red stripes, and red uniforms with white stripes. Were these later uniforms accurate? My guess is that they represent a particular style from a particular state in Mexico. I know in the American civil war, several different states had there own unique stile of the blue uniform and some green. Dose anyone know about the Red, and White Mexican uniforms?

Well, i am not srue if they were a region of Mexico or not, but Santa Anna loved pomp and cermony. Some called him Napoleaon of the West. He actually bought surplus uniforms from france and other places. So they had those uniforms.

According the OSPREY'S (Men-at-Arms) series:

Along with General Santa Anna, the forces besieging the Alamo were comprised of the Matamoros, San Luis Potosi, Aldama, Toluca, Jimenez Battalions. Attached to them were 185 Zapadores, some Cavalry & Artillery. The term Zappadores were actually Engineers.

It was true that the Mexican government purchased most of their uniforms from the French and equally interesting that most of their weapons were British.

Other information not found in the OSPREY series was the fact that the Infantry Grenadiers wore red coatees while the Militia wore white.

Yep the rifle the Mexicans carried was the Baker rifle developed by the British just a few years before. One of, if not the best assault rifles of its time. At the time of the Alamo the Mexican Army was ranked in the top ten of the known world at the time.. The US wasn't even mentioned as a force then.

In Jan. 1941 the US Military was ranked 16 in the world---Portugal was ranked 15
