How did he, the seller, manage get hold of "all" the episodes and how did he manage to do the transfer to DVD??? According to IMDb, the sole distribution companies that hold the rights are: MCA/Universal Home Video and NBC. They do not have the Thriller on DVD but only on laserdisc and VHS, and this is only a few episodes.

I don't know. I only know that I was able to find the same set on

EBAY.

That's a very good question. A great show like that has to be airing somewhere in this whole wide world! Maybe he taped them and transferred them to dvd?

reply

My guess is the seller got them from a "friend" somewhere along the Universal Home Video distribution chain and that Universal are putting the series out on DVD later this year.

I also bought a copy--all 67 episodes on 17 dvd's. The quality is much better than I'd expected.

There's a "SCREAM" logo in the lower right-hand corner of the screen for each episode; my guess is that they're TV transfers from some sort of 'SCREAM' television programme--possibly English, as there's no evidence that commercials were spliced out. And English TV, as I recall, rarely have commercial breaks.

I've been waiting for these episodes to be released for years. The hunt is over and I couldn't be happier.

Ah, that explains it. Thriller was broadcast in Canada in 2002-03 on the digital pay channel Scream. These bootleggers sound like they at least did a digial record/copy to keep the quality good. I'd alert Ebay but I know for a fact they don't give a damn about such thieves.

I'll wait for the official release, thanx.

My dad bought the complete set off of eBay about a month ago. All the DVD's are wrapped in celophane (sp?) and they look original to me.

There's a SCREAM logo at the bottom of the screen on our DVD's too.

Anybody here a fan of Way Out?

I remember the show Way Out. I think it was on for only 2 months. A really scary show. I have a few shows on tape on got from Ebay. I'm also hoping soon they release thriller on DVD. I have some shows I taped off the tv a few years ago. I'm also hoping Alfred Hitchcock Presents is released on DVD soon too!

vintagedvds.net are listing Thriller, plus a lot of other stuff, both movie and television. I can't see any information on the site about where they got the masters from - it's possible some of this stuff is in the public domain? Although as they're also selling The Wonder Years, probably not! They also take Paypal, but not credit cards. Sounds a bit dodgy to me ...

reply

I found this site not long ago, and my DVDs just arrived today. I believe I used Paypal.

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.

I went to Hastings to ask about Thriller and they came up with info on "Thriller" First Season and it was released in September 2005. That's all the info I found in my area. I ordered it and I'm waiting to hear of it coming in. All I have on Thriller are the 6 episodes on VHS. Lilly

The complete set of "Thriller" episodes is available from www.cinefear.com
The quality is excellent though there is the "Scream" logo on the screen. The set costs $75.00 and is on eighteen DVDs, but there is no box or packaging, the discs just come in small white envelopes. There is a standard DVD-R on-screen menu on each disc. You can watch all episodes on a disc or watch them individually. There are bonus episodes of "Suspense" and "The Veil" included on the set as well as a two-hour "Thriller" movie which may have been the original pilot. There is at least one 1960 TV ad for the show also on the final disc.
